The cabinet says eight garments. Can you load eight thick coats?

Three ordinary shirts hang inside an open graphite garment cabinet, with more laundry in a basket outside.

Reused AI-generated loading concept; the arrangement is not a measured capacity test or a maximum-load rating.

Eight shirts and eight padded coats take up very different amounts of space. When a garment cabinet lists a capacity by item count, check which clothes that count describes before planning a winter load. For the LINGCHONG LC-308, the current manual gives a suggested load of eight lightweight garments or four thick garments. Eight thick coats would exceed that reference.

The usable load also depends on how the clothes hang. A wide coat can crowd its neighbour even when an empty hanger position remains. A long hem may reach the bottom before the cabinet looks full. Check the arrangement with the garments you actually want to care for.

Read the loading instructions behind the number

Different cabinets have different layouts. In its June 2024 US hanger-mark guide, LG tells owners to use a diagonal moving-hanger slot for large clothes and avoid using standard and diagonal slots simultaneously. It also advises removing the shelf when hanging long clothes. The guide covers multiple models, so owners still need their own model’s instructions.

Samsung’s US DF10A9500CG specification sheet lists five hangers and an extra-length zone. This 2021 model example shows why buyers should ask where a long garment goes as well as how many hangers are supplied. Neither manufacturer’s arrangement establishes the loading rules for a different cabinet.

Check a bulky load in this order

  1. Read the care labels before counting. Confirm that each garment permits the intended washing and drying process. Check linings and trims as well as the main fabric. Set aside anything whose instructions conflict with the cabinet’s permitted use.
  2. Group compatible garments. Follow the model’s fabric and colour sorting instructions. A short shirt does not automatically belong in the same programme as a heavy wool coat simply because both fit on the rail.
  3. Arrange the bulkiest and longest pieces first. Use the hangers and supports specified for that model. Check the sleeves, shoulders and hem against its loading diagram before adding smaller items around them.
  4. Check the required space around the clothes. On the LC-308, garments must hang freely with more than 3 cm between adjacent items. Long coats should fall naturally without touching the bottom. Reduce mixed loads as needed to maintain that spacing; do not compress sleeves to squeeze in another item.
  5. Check the door and bottom area before starting. Clothes must not become trapped in the door. The LC-308 bottom grille is for drainage and must remain clear. If the arrangement fails these checks, take garments out and split the load.

Apply the LC-308 rules to the clothes you own

The LC-308 product page links to its current user manual. Its eight-lightweight or four-thick reference is an item count, not a kilogram rating. The manual also requires silk and wool to be washed separately using their corresponding selections. Knitwear needs the specified shelf support to prevent stretching under its wet weight.

For coats and long outerwear, select “Coat” and follow the washing or drying instructions for the intended task. This cabinet uses water washing while garments hang, followed by drying in the same cabinet. Care-label permission still matters. The manual excludes leather, fur and dry-clean-only garments; the word “coat” on a button does not make every coat suitable.

Keep one useful loading note

After checking an approved load, record the garment types, programme and arrangement. A photo taken before starting can help you repeat that layout. If several people use the cabinet, keep the note beside its instructions so that someone does not later replace four light jackets with four much bulkier coats without checking the space again.

When buying, bring the longest and bulkiest garments you expect to use and ask the supplier to explain their permitted arrangement. Record any garment that remains unsuitable or needs a separate load. That gives you a practical capacity for your wardrobe and avoids planning every wash around the largest number on the sales page.
